Session 1: Understanding and Writing the Dissertation


This session introduces the purpose, structure, and writing process of an academic dissertation. Participants will learn how dissertations are organized, how to write key chapters, and how to develop sustainable writing practices during graduate research.

  • Learn the structure of a thesis/dissertation

Session 2: Building the Research Question Using Efficient Discovery

This session focuses on transforming a research topic into a clear research question and conducting effective literature discovery. Participants will learn advanced search strategies, citation tracking, and research organization techniques using major academic databases. 

Participants will learn: 
  • How to move from a general topic to a focused research question 
  • How the scholarly research ecosystem works 
  • How to use academic databases for efficient literature discovery 
  • How to apply Boolean search, truncation, and advanced filters 
  • How to use reference mining and citation tracking to uncover key literature 
  • How to curate and organize research using reference management tools

Session 3: Citing, Defending, and Publishing Your Dissertation

The final session focuses on citation practices, preparing for the dissertation defense, and converting a dissertation into journal publications. Participants will also explore ethical considerations in academic writing, including the responsible use of AI tools. 

Participants will learn: 
  • Proper citation practices and common referencing styles 
  • How to avoid common citation mistakes and plagiarism 
  • Strategies for proofreading and editing a dissertation 
  • How to prepare for and succeed in a dissertation defense 
  • How to convert dissertation chapters into publishable journal articles 
  • Ethical use of AI in academic writing

Certification

Participants who attend all three sessions of the webinar series will receive a quiz at the end of the program.

Dr. Subhasree Nag

Dr. Subhasree Nag is a Strategic Customer Success Consultant for Clarivate’s Research & Analytics division in South APAC. She works with institutions in the region to strengthen their  research output and impact and align projects with regional priorities and funding. 

She also promotes Clarivate’s solutions through workshops and consulting.

Dr. Nag has published several highly cited papers in leading international journals. She also co-authored the UGC India–Good Academic Research Practices (2020) guidance document and contributes to Bioworld on early-stage discovery. 

Previously, she served as a research scientist at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, USA. She holds a PhD in oncopharmacology from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center and a Master’s in Pharmacy from the Institute of Chemical Technology, India.

Dr. Iryna Tykhonkova

Dr. Iryna Tykhonkova holds a PhD in Molecular Biology and brings extensive expertise in molecular biology and cell signalling.

She previously worked at the Institute of Molecular Biology and Genetics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. For 15 years, she served as Managing Editor of Biopolymers and Cell and as a lecturer at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, combining deep scientific knowledge with strong experience in academic publishing and education.

For the past nine years, she has been a Customer Success Consultant at Clarivate, supporting institutions in advancing research quality and impact.

Sanjay Rajan

Mr. Sanjay Rajan is based in New Delhi, India, and has been working as a Senior Customer Success & Training Manager-APAC at Clarivate for the last nine years. He is also leading the PQDT Global & ETD product globally from the global customer success team.  

He is an alumnus of CSIR -NISCAIR and had worked on Green Energy Technology Patents. Currently, he is engaged in academic research work in management field. He is also a certified life coach, mentor and counsellor.
