Our Presenters:
Simon received a Bachelors degree in Chemistry from the University of East Anglia in 1994 and a Masters degree in Electronic Communication from University College London in 2007. Prior to working at the University of Toronto Simon worked for 17 years for Thomson Reuters/Clarivate in various roles relating to the evaluation of research. During that time Simon headed projects to produce the THE World University Rankings, and the U.S. News & World Report Best Global Universities.
Simon joined the University of Toronto in 2015 and in the summer of 2021, he joined the Office of the Vice-President Research & Innovation as the Director of Research Strategy and Excellence. Simon’s primary responsibilities relate to the University’s interactions with ranking agencies and working across the University’s divisions to promote research excellence. Read more
Qing Liu serves as the Bibliometrics and Research Impact Analyst at Western University, working in the Knowledge Exchange, Impact and EDI-D in Research Team in the central research office. She is accountable for developing, advancing and implementing a variety of services to help Western researchers assess, track, enhance, and describe their scholarly research impact. This includes resources, training and support for use of various platforms as well as guidance around meaningful use of indicators. In her role, Qing also supports the use of bibliometrics to identify and inform institutional research areas of strength as well as areas for strategic improvement. Read more
